For generations of East Enders, September will always be remembered as the month when thousands of families would leave London and make their way to Kent for a working holiday away from the hardships of home picking hops for the beer industry.

In 2007, we held our first hop festival and every year since, the festival goes from strength to strength.

This year, well over 100 residents and friends were treated to an afternoon's dance and sing-a-long whilst enjoying fine East End traditional food in pie an dmash and jellied eels.

A photographic exhibition, showcasing many images supplied by residents and THCH staff was on display and a special commemorative booklet was produced of these photos.

A short video montage of the day can been seen by clicking here

A copy of the booklet can be downloaded here

The exhibition will be open to the public between 19 and 23 September at our head office, 285 Commercial Road, London, E1 2PS.

Do you have any images of hop picking for future exhibitions or booklets?
