Member of Parliament for Poplar and Canning Town, Jim Fitzpatrick MP, officially opened THCH's new £1.2million Tarling East Community Centre in Martha Street, Shadwell on 5 March.

More than 100 guests, inlcuding many local Councillors, attended the opening which sees THCH complete the total refurbishment works on the Tarling East Estate promised when the residnets voted to transfer from the Council to us in 2005.

THe new centre, located just a short walk from Shadwell DLR station provides a wonderful resource for residents and community groups and will celetainly benefit the whole area. 

Opening the centre, Jim Fitzpatrick praised THCH, Toynbee HA and the Tarling East Tenants and Residents Association (TRA) for working together to provide local people with this "wonderful facility".

THCH Finance & Development Committee Member, Councillor Tim Archer said "The centre will greatly benefit local people" whilst Chair of the Tarling East TRA, Mr Sundor Miah added "I hope all resdients will enjoy using the centre's facilities and it is we, the local people, who will use and appreciate the centre for many years to come".

The centre was built using modern methods of construction and incorporates many energy saving devices including solar panels, green roofs and rainwater facilities.  Adjoining the centre is a new play area and garden.
