Consultation to tackle alcohol related anti-social behaviour
Tower Hamlets residents can have their say on new powers to tackle alcohol related anti-social behaviour via a consultation into the Responsible Drinking Borough (RDB) that lasts until 4 April 2011.
The RDB does not ban people from drinking in public, but provides the Council and Police with the power to react quickly and effectively to drunken troublemakers.
Residents and businesses will have the opportunity to express their views on the RDB and can email their views to consultation@towerhamlets.gov.uk
The RDB will provide the Tower Hamlets Enforcement Officers (THEOs) and the Police with the powers to stop people and to confiscate, demand and dispose of any alcohol within the boundaries of Tower Hamlets.
Failure to comply with the request from the THEOs or Police to hand over alcohol can result in arrest and/or a fine of up to £500.
Roadshows are taking place about the Responsible Drinking Borough on:
- 27 March, 11am-2pm at the Richmix Cultural Foundation
- 28 March, 11am-2pm at the Bow Idea Store
- 29 March, 11am-2pm at the Cubit Town Library
- 31 March, 3pm-6pm at the Whitechapel Idea Store
