Amanda, our housing officer went to see a very unwell and vulnerable 89 year old lady and found that she has been living alone for quite some time with a run down kitchen. She had been asking the neighbours to help wash her clothes as she didn’t have a washing machine.
An old tumble drier sat where the washing machine should be, so Amanda took action to get the situation resolved as soon as possible.
She secured funds for a new washing machine and called contractors to arrange a date to come and fit the washing machine, but on the day was told that the lady had been admitted to hospital. This went on for months with the lady being periodically unwell and admitted. Amanda kept calling to set a new date until they were eventually able to attend and fit the new washing machine.
The lady was ecstatic and said “Thanks so much Amanda, I no longer have to ask the neighbours to wash my clothes!” She now has a brand new washing machine and a new fitted kitchen on the way thanks to Amanda!
