Community Snapshot: Celebrating Eid in Shadwell

Earlier this month our Customer Services team swapped their headsets for henna and face paint recently, as they hosted a vibrant Eid celebration at the Tarling East Community Centre.
The idea was simple: get out of the office, meet residents face-to-face, and give something back to the community.
Mandeep Bhogil, Director of Operations, spoke on the importance of celebrating with the community: "It's nice for us at THCH to give something back. Eid's such a special occasion. Food, light, dance, everything you see here. So, why not!."
Isin Safa, Customer Services Manager, explained: "Based on all the feedback from the community that were coming through the door…they wanted to see more presence in the community. Taking all the feedback on board, we decided as a team to do our first community event, being Eid."
The event was full of colour and energy, with henna artists, a bouncy castle, traditional dancers, face painting, and of course, delicious food and snacks shared with everyone who came along. It was a lovely day—and a meaningful one too.
Jusna Begum, a local resident that runs various women's groups at Tarling East Community Centre, said: "Eid is a beautiful time, it's a special time. We have two Eid's in a year. This is the first one and we celebrate amongst everyone."
Local residents Nasim and Yasmin even exclaimed: "It's amazing what you guys have been doing today. I think this is better than our actual Eid day!"
As the celebration filled Tarling East, it was a reminder of the value these community centres hold—especially in the heart of inner-city London. They’re not just venues; they’re vital spaces where people come together, connect, and thrive.
That’s why we’re proud to be working in partnership with Hyde, bringing investment into centres like Tarling East.
Head of Customer Services, Jake Giacobelli explained: "One of the many priorities for Hyde over the next 6 months is to invest in some of our community spaces. That comes from a lick of paint on the walls to some more foundational investment. These are spaces that ultimately people are crying out to use. What our reponsibility is now is to bring them up to standard that they're proud to use."
A huge thank you to the Customer Services Team for organising this event - we hope that those of you that attended enjoyed the day.
