Improving our outdoor spaces

By ensuring the surrounding areas to our homes are kept clean and tidy, we can create places people are proud to call home. And our grounds maintenance team are the people that help make this happen.

We’re pleased to share that from 15 May, John O’Conner will be our new grounds maintenance ‘Horticulture & Arboriculture’ contractor and will be delivering its award-winning grounds maintenance service across our community.

The service includes:

  • Grass cutting and maintenance
  • Footpaths and hard surfaces cleaning
  • Shrub and border maintenance
  • Floral bedding maintenance
  • Hedge and tree maintenance
  • Litter and leaf clearance
  • General weed control

John O’Conner is focused on engaging with our residents to help create the spaces our residents want to see. Within 12 months of the contract starting, a consultation will be carried out with all residents to understand priorities and preferences for estates. We’ll also reach out to our resident gardening clubs to find out how our grounds maintenance service can support what they do.

Residents will also have access to a microsite, where they can check when their area was last visited, as well as the expected future visit date. The site will also hold contact information, so residents can feedback directly to the ground’s maintenance team on their work, and what they’d like to see in future. Residents will have access to this site via our website on the Our Community page from 15 May.

Matt O’Conner, Managing Director of John O’Conner, said:

We are delighted to have been given this exciting opportunity to work with Tower Hamlets to manage their outdoor spaces and engage with residents. We will work to ensure we create and maintain the space that residents desire and are looking forward to working with local community groups to ensure that each and every outdoor space meets the aspirations of its users.’
